Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM04024 - Produce moulds and cores by hand

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Make mould and core

  1. Position core in prints utilising chaplets and chills, as required, and vent to specification
  2. Close mould and check for compliance to component specification
  3. Select and position appropriate moulding/core making equipment
  4. Select and use appropriate moulding media to produce mould and core to specification
  5. Secure mould
  6. Select or manufacture pouring basin to specification and position in accordance with procedures
  7. Ram up flat back and split pattern moulds and cores with single joints as required
  8. Use parting and stripping systems
  9. Position and secure vents, risers and runners as required
  10. Remove pattern from mould and core box safely and without causing damage to the pattern
